Electrochemical laboratory 
The Electrochemical Laboratory of the Department is well equipped with a variety of electrochemical instruments. The research projects of the laboratory are connected mostly to corrosion problems, including research and development of corrosion inhibitors, thin protective layers, organic coatings, study of passivity of metals and its breakdown.
A variety of electrochemical analysis techniques are available including potentiostatic, galvanostatic, potentiodynamic polarization methods, linear polarisation resistance (LPR), galvanic current, electrochemical noise (ECN), harmonic analysis, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), etc. The electrochemical equipments are combined also with a rotating disc electrode.

• Mechanism of corrosion processes and corrosion inhibition
• Research and development on environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors for low alloy steel, investigation of the synergistic effect between inhibitor compounds 
• Development of new surface pretreatment methods for steel, aluminium and galvanized steel
• Application of self-assembled mono- and multilayers for corrosion protection of metal surfaces, investigation of the kinetics of layer formation 
• Preparation of inorganic sol-gel layers for corrosion protection of iron and steel 
• Study of underpaint corrosion with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
• Kinetic investigation of passive layer formation on metal surfaces
